  • We use the gold standard endoscopic microsuction procedure which is different to normalised microsuction in the equipment that is used.  Unlike traditional microsuction in the community which uses dental loupes with X3 magnification to view the ear canal, we use endoscopes with X25 magnification which gives a far more precise view in the ear canal with greater depth perception.  Why is this important?  The better your field of view in the ear canal the more precise the procedure.  That means even ear wax removal deep in the ear canal or the eardrum can be managed without touching any of the delicate canal walls.
  • Every appointment includes a before and after image of the ear canal and a video of the procedure if you would like to give you the assurance that the procedure was successful.
  • A typical procedure can take between 15-30 mins.  Most microsuction procedures should not take long at all to reduce and mitigate risk from over exposure to noise in the ear canal.

Why Endoscopic Microsuction Is the Safest Way to Clear Your Ears

Microsuction is the safest way to remove impacted ear wax from any ear canal in line with Nice guidelines. It is a dry procedure not introducing water into the ear canal like the older ear syringing method. It is ideal for patients who have had grommets or previous operations of the ear. However with that said all our practitioners can use manual instrumentation and irrigation with water if microsuction is not suitable.

How much does ear wax removal cost in Solihull?

Ear wax removal is £50 for one ear and £70 for both ears at our Knowle clinic. There are no add-on charges. If we examine your ears and find no wax, you are not charged for a removal that did not happen — we will explain what is causing your symptoms and what to do next.

Yes we offer ear irrigation. Some patients prefer water irrigation if there is a contraindication with microsuction. This procedure uses warm saline solution water introduced into the ear canal using a temperature regulated CE marked irrigation unit.
Microsuction uses a small suction pen to gently remove ear wax out of the ear canal. It is the gold standard procedure because it is performed while being able to visualise the ear canal. It therefore reduces the risk of infection or putting any pressure on the eardrum.
A few drops of olive oil for 1-2 days beforehand usually helps, as softer wax lifts out more easily. Some patients prefer not to use ear drops because they find it blocks their ears completely. If you are unsure you can call our practitioners beforehand and we would be happy to advise on a case by case basis.
Most appointments take 15 to 30 minutes from start to finish, including the examination before and after.
In most cases yes, and microsuction is usually the preferred method for exactly these patients because no water enters the ear. We will always take a comprehensive case history to ensure the correct procedure is performed. Endoscopic microsuction is great for complex cases where patients have had operations or surgeries of the ear as you have a far better view compared to traditional viewing methods.
